Fueling Growth for Good
A conversation with Moxe’s Chief Operating
and Financial Officer
Moxe Health : 12.30.24 3:43 PM
Moxe’s Chief Operating and Financial Officer Katie Mallett has spent her career in healthcare and education, fueled by a desire to help industries that are trying to do good—and that also have an opportunity for growth.
Katie began her career at athenahealth. During her decade-long tenure there, she saw the company expand from about 200 to over 6,000 employees, and she helped grow its strategic finance function from a team of one to over 40.
When Katie was ready for a new challenge, she had the opportunity to serve at an education technology company as its first in-house Chief Financial Officer. She says it was a leap of faith to move to education, but she recognized that, like healthcare, it was an industry ripe with growth opportunities.
During her time at the company, she was ultimately named president and saw the company’s revenue and personnel grow exponentially.
Katie says these two formative career experiences–first in healthcare and then in education–helped lead her to Moxe.
“I realized that I enjoy being in a dynamic start-up environment where there’s a pressing need for problem solving and figuring things out for yourself,” she says.
Katie says her professional experience in healthcare, as well as the personal health challenges she’s weathered, highlighted both the complexities and areas of opportunity within the industry. She feels compelled to do what she can to help.
“Moxe is solving a really big, pressing problem: affordability in healthcare. We are relieving some of the administrative burden from the healthcare system so that providers can really focus on patients. I’m excited to be part of that,” she says.
First impressions
In her first several months at Moxe, Katie has been impressed with how passionate everyone is about the company’s mission. “There’s a real feeling of ambition and wanting to make a difference.”
She’s also been struck by how deeply the team cares about our customers. “It’s hard to quantify, but I think the commitment to delivering exceptional customer service is very much felt by our customers,” she says.
Katie shared a recent example: “Our ROI [Release of Information] team was just telling me that they are going to work overtime to make sure all the requests they have on their plate get processed before the end of the year. It’s not because anyone is telling them to; it’s because they feel that it’s important for their customers’ success,” she says.
Moxe’s commitment to our customers' satisfaction and overall experience is core to our values. An integral part of our strategy, we continuously strive to deliver superior products and services that delight our customers.
Looking to the future
Katie says one of the reasons she joined Moxe is because she believes technology can help transform medical practices’ unit economics in a powerful way: She sees how technology can increase efficiency, drive down costs, and improve margins. She’s excited to see how Moxe’s tech-first solutions can increasingly be a force for good.
“I see this in the ROI space. So much of the ROI business is still manual. Our chart retrieval product can be used to automate so much of that, and our customers are increasingly asking us to help them build more automated ROI,” she says.
“A lot of practices are struggling right now. There is an opportunity to transform the way ROI is done. Our tech-first solution, combined with our top-of-their-field ROI experts, will play a big role in innovating for good in the industry,” she says. (You can hear from some of our ROI experts about the transformative power of combining best-in-class expertise with innovative technology here.)
“Our in-house ROI experts provide real-time product feedback. With their expertise and guidance, our offering is evolving to meet customer needs much quicker than if we had to lean on external resources for feedback,” she says.
In addition to helping Moxe expand its reach and the healthcare ecosystem harness the power of technology to decrease administrative cost, increase efficiency, reallocate resources to where they matter, and optimize revenue, Katie is committed to helping make Moxe a great place to work.
“I want our employees to really see the impact that they’re having and feel like there is a lot of opportunity for growth,” she says.
We’re thrilled to have Katie and her commitment to fueling growth for good at Moxe!
